Comprehensive Scar Management Program
Dr. Brock Lanier, MD, FACS | OncoPlastic Surgery in Newport Beach
Why do scars form?
Scars form when the skin is cut, burned, or otherwise damaged.
Partial-thickness injuries affecting only the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) may heal completely without forming any permanent mark.
However full-thickness damage like surgical cuts and deep burns, which go all the way through the skin (both the epidermis and dermis), will result in a permanent scar.
Unfortunately all scars are permanent. That said, scars can be treated to make them less noticeable, less sensitive& less itchy (symptomatic).
Overview
Experience a smoother, more comfortable recovery with our innovative post-surgical Scar Management Program. This comprehensive program focuses on optimizing scar formation & accelerating post-surgical healing through proactive treatments. We employ advanced techniques & proven therapies to minimize the scar’s appearance & reduce its sensitivity.
Details
Our Scar Management Program offers a personalized approach to minimize scar impact. The step-by-step program includes:
Early Healing (1.5-2 wk after surgery): Near-infrared (NIR) light therapy helps reduce postoperative swelling, redness, & inflammation.
Scar Formation (starting 3 wk after surgery):
Silicone Gel Scar Cream (include day & night formulations): Promotes optimal scar formation.
Scar Microneedling: Performed by our double-board certified plastic surgeon to improve blood flow, softens & smoothes scar texture, and enhances scar elasticity with collagen induction.
BroadBand Light therapy: Treats red color to decrease the scar’s inflamed appearance.
Advanced Therapies (6+ wk after surgery): Depending on your individual needs, we may recommend additional treatments such as:
Laser therapy or additional microneedling: To improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of scars.
Additional BroadBand Light therapy: For persistent redness and inflammation.
Steroid scar injection:To address hypertrophic or keloid scarring.
